What is a suitable age to treat an open bite?
Children with an open bite condition should have a dental evaluation at around seven years of age, while they still have some baby teeth. This is the suggested age to start certain open bite correction procedures such as behavior modification, to prevent open bites as they grow.03
Does open bite get worse with time?

What are the causes of open bites?
An open bite is generally caused by skeletal problems such as genetics or dental problem or a combination of both. Skeletal open bites happen as a result of improper jawbone growth which causes the jaw and teeth to grow incorrectly. This could be in your genes or a particular hereditary jaw size and shape being passed on.
A dental open bite occurs as a result of misaligned teeth or bad oral habits such as thumb sucking, sucking on Pacifiers, tongue thrusting, etc. Other causes include traumas to the jaw, insufficient space for adult teeth to erupt, poor tongue posture, or improper swallowing patterns.

What happens if I don’t undergo open bite correction?
If you do leave your open bite untreated, it can lead to overall oral and health problems such as decaying teeth, difficulty in eating and chewing, temporomandibular joint disorders (TMJ), speech impediments, and breathing disorders.07
Can an open bite be fixed naturally?
No, an open bite cannot be fixed on its own; you will have to use aligners, and braces or go through surgery. The more time wasted, the more invasive will be the open bite correction treatment.08
